Press Release

Network Band Plan and Register of Allocations Published

Spectrum Management Office

The Communications Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published the Network band plan. The plan divides the spectrum used within the Network into thirteen bands, from the timing and synchronisation reference at the lower end of the very high frequency range to the trial bands above 24 gigahertz, and states for each band the class of allocation that may be made in it and the uses to which it is put.

At the same time the Department opened the Register of Allocations. The register records every allocation and licence in force within the Network, the holder, the band and channel concerned, the class under which it was made and the date on which it expires. On its opening day the register records the primary allocation made to each member organisation on admission, the allocations made to the shared services already in operation and the channels reserved for the operation of the Network and for the public broadcasting service.

The band plan and a summary of the register are published on the Department's website under Spectrum Allocations. Members holding an allocation should check the entry recorded against them and notify the Spectrum Management Office of any error. The register is the authoritative record of what may transmit on a Network channel, and equipment operating outside it is in breach of the Network's rules.
